Make a Cardboard Tree (finally)
15 Aug 2012 14 Comments
I finally got around to making instructions for the cardboard tree I had sitting on my bookshelves in the children’s area. I didn’t take pictures of the process, so I made very rudimentary drawings in a very poor drawing application because that’s all I’ve got. Apologies to all. Please ask questions, It’s been a while since I made my trees, so while I tried to remember all my tips and steps, I’m sure I left things out.

Hi Rachel – I love your very creative ideas. As an author of kid’s books, I’ve been invited to host some storytelling events at local book stores and schools. I’ll be checking out your posts for inspiration! Thank you.

Hi Rachel,
I love your displays!! I’m starting to make a tree for our children’s corner and am wondering if you covered it with paper after you did the cardboard cut-out. Thank you,
Pam
any other tips would be wonderful:)

I did end up covering it with brown paper, just by lying it down and tracing around all the little branches. Kind of a pain, but I also then layered another five sheets of brown paper under the first one with the traced tree, and cut out all 6 sides of my tree at once (since they’re identical).

Love the tree. Such a cool idea. I get the base. How do you make the bunches of leaves stay on the top- seems pretty heavy.

Hi Rachel-
Wow. This makes me want my new fridge now, just to make this for my boys’ room. An old teacher partner of mine {who was formerly the art teacher} made a tree in his kindergarten room from chicken wire and paper mache. Upon seeing your project, I was reminded of Noah’s room…so I had to feature it.

Love your pinterest boards, btw!

Tissue Paper flowers are so versatile, my love for them is unending – because not only are they pretty, they’re EASY and CHEAP to make. I got my first little tutorial from Martha. Check it out: http://www.marthastewart.com/265163/pom-poms-and-luminarias-how-to

I was just wondering where you found or how you made your “BOOKS” letters with the white christmas light in them. They are wonderful. Thank you.

I think you’ll find I answered those questions as best I could in the post about that display.
